DISABLED MARRIAGE

EQUALITY !

Millions of disabled Americans rely on disability benefits including, Supplemental Security Income (SSI) or Disabled Adult Child (DAC), as well as Medicaid or Medicare benefits to survive. Unfortunately, the majority of disabled people who rely on these benefits would see them reduced or lost completely if they were to get married or even live with their partner.

The benefits system also forces them to live below the poverty line by restricting them to only having $2,000 in assets for a single person and $3,000 in assets for a married couple.

We encourage people to reach out to their lawmakers if they want to see change happen!

You can find more information about disabled marriage equality by visiting, The Disability Education and Defense Fund (DREDF), whose staff is on the frontline of this fight, but clicking: HERE.

However, this issue is not just in the United States. There are "marriage penalties" for disabled people around the world in countries including: Canada, England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, and Australia.
